In spite of serious financial problems Virginia General Assembly focuses on gun laws

Thirty thousand teachers in Virginia face being laid off, schools all over the Commonwealth are being closed, unemployment in Virginia increased at the highest rate in the nation in December, and foreclosures continue all over the state.  Yet, the General Assembly has been spending it’s time changing gun laws because of an ignorant paranoia that [...]

The Health Care Summit

I listened to the health care summit most of the day today.  There was a lot of information tossed out and lots of suggestions from both sides of the aisle.  The Republicans want a plan that would insure 3 million more people and the Democrats want a plan that will insure 30 million more people.  [...]

President Obama Rather Be Really Good One Term President

I have wondered if Obama ever intended to be a two term president.  I’m not sure he intends to run for re-election.
President Obama, buffeted by criticism of his massive health care reform bill and election setbacks, said today he remained determined to tackle health care and other big problems despite the political dangers to his [...]

New Obama policy bars lobbyists from federal advisory panels

Lobbyists are, of course, up in arms about this rule complaining that this will “neuter the voice of American business.”  The new policy does not bar top corporate officers from sitting on advisor panels as long as they aren’t lobbyists.

Psalm 109:8 merchandise

I find it ridiculous that Cafe Press couldn’t read Psalm 109:8 in context to know just what it meant. I guess better late than never.
This morning we made the decision to remove all Psalms 109:8 designs from CafePress.
The public debate started with questioning if the design was simply intended to be criticism of the [...]

Psalms 109:8, An Ugly Prayer for President Obama

Christian nuts are only marginally less scary than Islamic nuts.
Let his days be few; and let another take his office.

Psalms 109:8, An Ugly Prayer for President Obama
Any time the citizens of a state, particularly a democracy, invoke their faith to pray for the demise of those they oppose politically, we should be concerned. When [...]

Obama Threatens Insurers’ Anti-Trust Exemption

The exemption to anti-trust laws came in 1945 with the McCarran-Ferguson Act that was passed to keep regulation of insurers in the hands of the states.
The McCarran-Ferguson Act does not prevent the federal government from regulating the insurance industry. It provides only that states have broad authority to regulate the insurance industry unless the federal [...]

Barack Obama is not the first president to address school children.

Barack Obama is not the first president to address school children.
Secretary of Education Arne Duncan urged the nation’s principals to allow their students to watch a Sept. 8 address on the importance of education from President Barack Obama.

The speech drew fire from some Republicans who said school children should not be required to listen to [...]

Video: Joe Scarborough addresses the President addressing school kids controversy

Thanks for the sanity, Joe.
On MSNBC’s Morning Joe today, host Joe Scarborough ripped into the hyperventilating conservatives. “Seriously, why don’t we want the president of the United States, any president of the United States, delivering the message to kids: work hard, stay in school, succeed,” said Scarborough, adding, “get your ratings if you want, you’re [...]
