Christmas Plans
Filed in Miscellaneous on Dec.21, 2009
I apologize for not being around much, but I finally got out today to finish up my Christmas shopping. Last night I made fudge and a batch of spritz cookies and I have more of both to make. I’m doing up little gift boxes of goodies as an extra something for family and friends. I may do some bon bons as well but I can’t decide what flavor of bon bons….wintergreen, peppermint or coconut.
I’ve gifts to wrap and last minute decorating and it may be for nothing. The weather forecast is calling for freezing rain Christmas Eve which is when we do our family gathering.
So, what are your plans for Christmas?

You are further than me! My little family is gathering Wednesday. We are getting up to 5″ of snow tonight with a bigger storm coming in Thursday am. They don’t know if that will be freezing rain or snow.
I plan to do the last of my shopping in the morning and do one final appointment in the afternoon. Then I am hunkering down until Saturday.

It was still pretty messy when we went out today but we paid someone to scrap the driveway which helped. I found the gifts I needed at Peebles which was really nice because it’s a smaller store and it wasn’t too busy. I was in and out in no time. The grocery shopping is what took awhile.
I don’t know what we are going to do if the forecast is still calling for freezing rain on Thursday night. Maybe get together Saturday night after Christmas. Wednesday night is out because of some family members’ prior commitments. I just don’t know yet.
Tomorrow is fudge, bon bons and cookie making day. I just finished wrapping the gifts for the family exchange.

I would choose not to go out in the freezing rain. I would stay inside all warm and safe and have the family get together when it is safe to drive… but then, that is what i would do. Sometimes I get called the grinch of Christmas because of things like that … and even more so now that i have grown into my silver hairs …
Ohhhhh and by the way …. MERRY CHRISTMAS to each and all from me, the near Grinch at Christmas time. O:-)
As for my Christmas here, we are expecting to have a tropical Christmas … husband is going to cook out in the grill, a couple of friends will be here (Oh, but that is Christmas EVE, Latin style) and then on Christmas Day we will go by the kids house and see the grandkids.
My son is coming by today to pickup the presents we have for the grandkids (my 2 1/2 year old grandchild likes music. He strikes notes at his other grandfather’s piano … so I got them an electronic keyboard that my grandchild and his mother, who also likes music, can sit together and play.) And I give them that particular gift hoping that they will continue to fructify the gift of music that is in Kai.

That sounds like a fun Christmas, Sky. I’m all for staying warm and safe, too.

MY PLANS? Well lemme tell u, just like Thanksgiving, and every holiday these days, no one lets us in on the plans until a day or an hour before the fact. I missed a get together at my brothers house because no one (mom) mentioned it to me ! My sister called yesterday and asked what I’m cooking for Christmas day dinner and I had heard of NO such plans. We normally go Christmas Eve and this year it’s been switched , last minute, and I didn’t know I was expected to cook, until yesterday. So I told them I’m bringing FUDGE
LOL
But we did make plans to FOR REAL plan the whole Christmas thing next summer and shop for it as well, because it’s getting silly with a family our size to have to rush the last week and do a trillion things. We do mom’s shopping, wrapping and cooking and with our own families and plans its a little hard. So this year we told her she was on her own for shopping :P and she went to dollar general and got a bunch of peanuts and shampoo for everyone. SHE SHOWED US ! I have to get to a place where I can just enjoy the zaniness and go with the flow. Any ideas?

I’ve sort of learned to go with the flow. It took a long time, though. I have no particular expectations and therefore don’t get disappointed or upset when things get a little crazy.

@Sage, Sage, that is brilliant. I really mean it. There is a direct correlation between “expectation” and “disappointment” … and most of us are not aware of the correlation and generally blame others for our disappointments when it is our expectations that get us to the disappointment well.

I have found that the blues usually follow either my imagination or my expectation. LOL

Did I just get a Christmas lesson :$? :P
Honestly it is good advice. I keep “expecting” my diminished mother to behave normally. It is my fault really. My brothers are PROS at ignoring it. Some days I can, some days not. Now my kids are old enough to see it and notice it ……… I gotta find a good way to just forge ahead! ty

It’s a lesson hard earned and something I’m not always able to do but not having expectations or imagining how things should be or could be has saved me a lot of anxiety, depression and grief.
I really never expect my family to behave normally. LOL I wouldn’t know how to act if they did.

Well, in the last couple of days I’ve made 14 – 16 dozen cookies and 6 pounds of fudge. Tomorrow is bon bon making day and I have to cook the ham.
I also got all my gifts wrapped today. My back is tired and I think it’s time to lay down.

I took my kids and we went and wrapped all the gifts for my friend/employer as her gift . I can’t buy her anything because she is loaded and buys whatever she wants. But the smile on her face was as good as if I’d bought her an island !!!!!! The kids had fun too. I just made some crunchy peanut bark? DELISH!
No expectations…… I’m gonna work on it. I’ll report back on the weekend !

What a neat thing to do. Good luck with the expectations.
