Danica Patrick to Announce NASCAR Deal with Dale Earnhardt Jr.
Something the readers may not know is that I’m a NASCAR fan. Yes, I know it’s politically incorrect for a liberal to be a NASCAR fan, but such is life. My husband and I were Dale Earnhardt fans and now are Dale, Jr. fans. I’m happy to see him sign up Danica Patrick.
According to Wikipedia there have only been 15 women to drive in NASCAR:
* Sara Christian
* Jennifer Jo Cobb
* Erin Crocker
* Kim Crosby
* Tina Gordon
* Janet Guthrie
* Tammy Jo Kirk
* Ethel Mobley
* Patty Moise
* Leilani Munter
* Deborah Renshaw
* Mara Reyes
* Shawna Robinson
* Louise Smith
* Kelly Sutton
Danica Patrick will drive for Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s NASCAR Nationwide Series team in 2010, a source close to the situation told Sporting News on Monday.
The formal announcement will come Tuesday in Phoenix, home of GoDaddy, which will sponsor her car. The announcement will end months of speculation about whether Patrick would race in NASCAR.
She will run a limited schedule in the Nationwide series and will run all 18 races in the IndyCar series. Details that will be announced today and in the weeks to come include Patrick’s schedule, car number and crew chief.
Patrick, 27, the only woman to win an IndyCar race, is expected to make her Nationwide debut in the season-opening event Feb. 13 in Daytona Beach, Fla., although she could make her stock car debut in an earlier ARCA series race. Patrick never has raced a stock car. She tested a Nationwide series car in 2002 before deciding to race in the IndyCar series.

Sage, one of my part-time neighbors (she lives up north but her sons own two houses on this street) comes down every year in time to go to the NASCAR RACES down in homestead. They make a big party out of it. They put their BBQ thing on their truck, i think that they BBQ out in the parking lot, if its cold they’ll take blankets, … they are really big fans of NASCAR RACES… (Maybe this thing about taking their BBQ thing down to homestead etc. might be similar to the football fans’ tailgating party. ????)

Yep…it’s like football fans tailgating. We have friends who travel all over the country from race to race. I’ve been to a couple but I’d rather watch on t.v. With my back problems, sitting on those bleachers is not a good thing for me.

@Sage, Oh, God! Even without back problems bleachers to sit on can be excruciating.

A very good, long time freind of mine died a couple of yrs ago. He owned a lumber mill but for fun, he was on Kevin Nuttleman’s pit crew (Kevin was this years WI champion).
When we arrived at the country cemetery, there was Kevins car with someone dressed in Kevins gear at the back of the cemetery, standing at attention. Kevin was one of the pall bearers. At the end of the graveside services, he got in the car and started the engine. Reving the engine he slowly drove out of the cemetery onto the highway and turned on a country road that came back along where we were standing.Then he stood on the gas pedal. Kind of like a 21 gun salute. I think he was airborne going over the hill. The actually had the town cop on the other side of the hill to stop any oncoming traffic. It a was perfect finish for him.

@Wizcon, WIZ! THat sounds so cool. My husbands good friend died a few years back and was an avid harley rider. At the graveside many of his friends did a similar thing with their bikes. No one went airborn. I guess that is a SOP for that sort of service.

I am not a Danika fan. Actually I strongly dislike the girl. Not an indy car fan either. But I’m not wild about this move. But seeing how I’m not too much of a nascar fan either, I guess it doesn’t matter much. I saw a special on Danika one night and came away just about hating her ! LOL … Not sure that was the special’s intent ! She was whiny and throwing her girlness around and I found it VERY unbecoming and very UNEMPOWERING to women in general. The message I got from Danika’s attitude is ” if the boys are too mean to you , whine like a girl and get your way and they’ll step aside”. I was actually surprised because I thought the reason she was so wildly popular was because she was driving circles around the boys and was more talented than them. Turns out it’s jsut because she’s pretty ! GO WOMEN”S LIB!!!!!

I don’t know anything about her, but was just glad to see a woman getting into NASCAR.

Well, this may come across wrong………but here goes
……… did that sound bad? So we will see how they react to her or if she treats them the same way I saw her treating the indy guys……..
Nascar drivers seem a bit more masculine/rugged/tough than indy car drivers………
