@AliSilver, "This war, right or wrong, necessary or not , has gone on WAY TOO LONG. It ’s no longer a war , it’s more like occupying and/or nation building or nation TAKEOVER or something. To sell us that it is a war is ludicrous. Any thinking person knows that if our military is what the govt. claims it is, this war could have been over years ago. But the words occupying and nation building are stricken from the govt’s lips but it’s clear that is what is going on."

It is always easier to make a mess than to clean it up. Bush seemed to think like Samantha in Bewitched, he could wiggle his nose and set things to rights again - just declare victory, and its done.

Bush never finished the war in Afghanistan, he had his war of choice to get on with in Iraq.

Nation building is a mess cleaning up process. I don't know what the answer is, but IMHO, walking away isn't it.

The anti-war people who voted for Obama weren't duped except by themselves when it comes to Afghanistan - Obama always said he would put more troops into Afghanistan.

I was multi tasking and watching. I have always felt that we should not be there to fight anyone but al Quida and extremist taliban who support them. I feel we should give notice to the world that we are not the saviors or "fixers" but there to give notice that the country is ulimately responsible for itself. He has given notice that this is all we are going to do, support services and training are there for that time at least, and they better get their act together and take their own country in their hands. To me it was a notice to Pakistan as well given that the Indian Premier was a honored guest at the State dinner. India is a huge country and not freindly with Pakistan. Pakistan also needs to get it act together. Sure they have 500,00 troops to protect their nuclear capabilitites but those insurgents still remain in their tribal territory and have the capability to sway public opinion when it comes time for an election. Either by violence or by pointing out the corruption there as well.
The point is, there is a deadline for our troops to be there, withing this term of our administration. It honors those who have died and been wounded there by not cutting and running. Its a consequential action. They have decisions to make while weighing the consequences of their actions or inaction

I don't consider myself really Pro War or Anti War. Not that I am neutral like the Swiss. I just feel like the powers that be that decide whether or not to go to war, have MUCH more information than I and maybe if they think a war is necessary, maybe it is. It's like deciding on a defendant's guilt or innocence on the news when the JURY has decided and they've been privy to much more info than me. I think the jury must know enough to reach their decision. THAT being said,,,,, I don't fault Obama with this war. Clearly it was already rolling long before he got here. I am sad for the folks who voted for him specifically because they were ANTI war and now they've been duped. But again, he must have more info than any of us, so maybe JUST MAYBE , it is necessary? I don't know. I'm speculating. ALL THIS BEING SAID..... :( This war, right or wrong, necessary or not , has gone on WAY TOO LONG. It 's no longer a war , it's more like occupying and/or nation building or nation TAKEOVER or something. To sell us that it is a war is ludicrous. Any thinking person knows that if our military is what the govt. claims it is, this war could have been over years ago. But the words occupying and nation building are stricken from the govt's lips but it's clear that is what is going on. So at this Christmas season, let's try to not think of who started or who is carrying on this so called 'war'. Let's think of the troops and their families who are carrying out these orders, whether or not they like it or agree. We can only hope our govt is acting RIGHTEOUSLY while sending our friends and family into harm's way. Any other way would be unforgivable. :(

I did not watch/listen to Obama ... could not listen to anymore of that war-on-terror Bush created stuff. I did listen to MAXINE WATERS SPEAK TO KEITH OLBERMAN. SHE SAID SHE AND BARBARA LEE (Head of the Black Caucus (?))COULD NOT AND WOULD NOT SUPPORT OBAMA'S ESCALATION OF THE "WAR" IN AFGHANISTAN ...

And I, well, I say ... He should put on his white robe down by the riverside, lay down his sword and shield ... down by the riverside, and study war no moe!
