Angry Crowd Shouts at Sarah Palin Book Signing Tour Noblesville, IN
Filed in Politics on Nov.21, 2009
I’ve read estimates of anywhere from 100 – 300 people were left behind with unsigned books. They had stood out in the rain and cold and Palin left before finishing the book signings. Imagine that….Palin quitting something before it was done.

Yeah, she should get back out and sign books for another hour or two because a couple of people were yelling and booing at her. The whole crowd was not booing either, it is just a couple of people near the camera, including the person operating the camera, that are doing the yelling.

@Alessandro Machi, “Yeah, she should get back out and sign books for another hour or two because a couple of people were yelling and booing at her.”
No, she should have stayed to sign the books because her supporters, the common folk she says she represents, waited for hours in the rain after laying out cold hard cash for her book, on the promise that she would.
It has to do with respect for the time, discomfort, and money (at a time when money is scarce), every day people gave for the opportunity to meet her. It has to do with Sarah’s work ethic.
Sarah blew an opportunity to demonstrate that she really does relate to and represent ordinary people; instead she acted like a member of the elite, walking away. In effect, she said her time and her comfort is more valuable than theirs.

Actually she should have gone out and signed the books for the remaining people who had wristbands that entitled them to have their book signed. I put up a link to more information.

Knock me over with a feather Sage. Do you mean she actually quit
something before she was finished? >:–(
(I am just wondering when they are going to cart her off to the mental ward).

Now, Sky, would Sarah do that?
Yes…………… yes, she would.

Allesandro Machi is right, and this post is misleading. Did she walk out early on the actual book signing inside the store, leaving people hanging who actually got there early enough to get inside? Or is she expected to cater to two or three crybabies in the crowd who got there late and expect to be coddled in the parking lot?

Wizcon is right. There were 1000 wrist bands given out and all of those people were supposed to get their books signed. She skipped out before signing all of them.
November 21st, 2009 at 8:57 am
From what I read, they had handed out 1000 wrist bands to get her signiture. So she did sign somewhere around 700-800. Sounds superhuman to me if she actually did sign 800. If she was there 8 hours that would be 100 hr and 1.6 a minute. Yup everyone is playing with numbers again.
Preorder price at Borders was $20.99. $9.00 off. Offical release from Borders is Nov 24
So I am sure, soon autographed books will be on ebay

@Wizcon,
If they pre-sold more wristbands than she could humanly or realistically sign, then they probably will have to reassess the amount of wristbands they make available in the future.
I don’t think I could sign my name over and over virtually non-stop while talking to people and paying attention to them as well for anywhere near the amount of times she signed.

Maybe Sarah’s fans should reassess her.
Here’s a link to a Bill Clinton book signing – a thousand people:
http://www.searchgate.com/Bill_Clinton_signs_books_San_Francisco_v4812053/
Here’s another account:
“LONDON – Former US President Bill Clinton drew more than a thousand people Monday to his only scheduled book signing in Britain, and left many happy customers in his wake.”
and after the signing:
“When the book signing was over, he and daughter Chelsea spent 20 minutes greeting people.”
http://www.namibian.com.na/index.php?id=28&tx_ttnews%5Btt_news%5D=7716&no_cache=1
Here are the book signing rules:
http://www.thevillagesdailysun.com/articles/2009/11/10/news/news01.txt
Apparently the rules are pretty standard as is the thousand person limit; on another site I read a personal account written by someone who was having a copy of Clinton’s book, “My Life” signed for his brother’s birthday. He said when it was his turn, he asked Clinton to write “Happy Birthday” (in violation of the rules), and Clinton cheerfully did.
I agree that the prospect of signing a thousand books is a big job, but so is being president. I have a feeling that Sarah would fall short and disappoint over and over again while her fans would continue to give her a pass.

It seems that the barracuda/pit bull has very little stamina for a barracuda/pit bull. Palin is a joke at best. The only thing she’s good at is running her mouth and that’s only if you don’t mind listening to gibberish.

@Sage, There is definitely some respectful comedy to be had here.
This would make a great Saturday night live skit. Comparing hand signature stamina and having a group panel discuss Sarah vs Hillary. Show clips of both Hillary and Sarah signing it out.
Maybe have a horse racing announcer call it. Cut to a voice over of the hand signing technique and strategy each uses. Hillary icing her hand.
By the way, I totally respect the energy that must go into actually signing each and every book while also trying to briefly speak to the person while doing it.

@Sage,
I think this is a form of sexism at work. I think extreme book signing is actually very difficult to do, and do well. But the media would never respect it as being a “skill” because women can do it as well, and perhaps better than man. Because women can sign books as well, if not better than men, the media discounts it as being meaningful.
If however, men were known to be much faster and better than women at signing many books at a time, there would be stories done about how strong and how much stamina a man has. It is this kind of subtle disrespect that represses women in the media and how men view them.

@Sage,
That’s the worst kind. It’s really there but few notice it. This type of media sexism also happens when it comes to heroic measures being taken. The heroic act is judged more important if a man did it than if a woman did it, especially if physical force was involved.

Hillary was a democrat moreso than Barack Obama in every way, and look at the “support” she got from the democratic higher ups. Barack Obama is a supporter of the banksters while also having the support of the anti-bank crowd as well.

I don’t like Sarah as a potential leader or having anything to do with our government. I feel she is to polarizing and just not qualified enough. I doubt she ever will be. She is good at selling herself.
So I am a WASP

@Sage, A more appropriate comparison for an atheist Christian might be a tolerant liberal. Palin Democrats more closely resemble the Reagan Democrats, in that they refuse to do what the Democrats have accused the Republicans of for years. Swear allegiance to a party platform and march in lockstep.
Sage Reply:
November 21st, 2009 at 6:48 pm
If you don’t support the platform, then you aren’t a Democrat…..it’s a really simple concept. You might have been a democrat at some point but if you support Palin you aren’t one now. It’s not a matter of lockstep, it’s a matter of supporting the very basic ideas of the party. And I suppose you think conservatives are tolerant? LOL I bet you think you’re a great patriot, too.
I very well know how the “Democrats” who support Palin came about. It’s a bunch of bullshit.
AliSilver Reply:

@Sage, I ‘m gonna disagree on this one Sage. Because there are dozens or party IDEAS or ISSUES and no one person can agree with ‘their’ party on every one of those issues. I think we generally gravitate toward the party that makes us happy MOST of the time, but know that the other party has a few good points we like too ! I would guess ( although i never heard of dems. for sarah) that they are in that category. The democratic party never fully ‘satisfied their needs’,,, but they stuck with them,,,,until Sarah WOWED them with those googly , shifty eyes ! LOL
Sage Reply:

I don’t agree on every idea or issue, but I do agree on the basic platform. I didn’t even vote for Obama, so obviously I don’t agree on every single thing.
If you don’t agree on the basics of the platform, I don’t think you are a Democrat. I could never someone who was a diametrically opposed to my liberal values as Sarah Palin…..and I especially wouldn’t vote for her just because she is a woman. I think that’s sexist and stupid.

@Wizcon, Well as a woman, I got nothing for Sarah or Hillary. I do think Hillary is smart and will likely be presidential material (although I disagree with her on most issues) in some years down the road. Neither is qualified at THIS POINT,,s o I dont know why a woman would vote for her just because she’s a woman. That’s the OPPOSITE of liberating women, imho!

The lockstep comes in the rigid definitions people throw at each other in politics. That is why I have never identified with a party. I vote according in consideration of what the candidate representss, their history, consistency and if I believe they are more likely to govern for the benefit of the people.

Please watch this video of the same crowd at the same time. The other was a manufactured incident. Palin was there from 5:30 until 9PM and the local news there said it was less than 30 people left but 9 was the agreed time to absolutely cut it off (an hour and a half over)

I read an article where the bookstore apologized for the overbooking of the event. Sorry I do not have the link. But she did stay longer than the original 3 hours that was calculated by the bookstore.
I would be disappointed to say the least also if had happened to me–no matter who I was waiting in line to have sign a book. But some of the ‘disappointing” comments seem like fair weather friends. Anyway, just my opine.
Should she have stayed. Perhaps yes. But the media outrage is silly also.

Sarah Palin is a HUGE HYPOCRIT! Here is what I think I cannot stand about her and it has to do with her morality ! She stands with a party who pretends that abstinence is their answer to the universe’s woes. When she paraded her daughter on SEVERAL talk shows and news shows and magazine covers to taught how wonderful it was that her unmarried, minor child who got knocked up was NOT going to get an abortion because it’s wrong,,,,, I just wanted to puke. LOL
Of course, accidents happen and of course young girls get pregnant. But standing up for the party who pretends those things don’t happen , she should have said YES , she’s pregnant, YES ,she’s keepign the baby and kept that girl out of the spotlight, off of tv and somewhere quiet and safe to grow her baby and not so IN MY FACE ! :@
So Kudos to Sarah. The publicly aired dirty laundry is just outrageous. It’s like Jerry Springer meets SNL’s Church Lady.
