Update: Census worker’s hanging body naked, bound
This witness account has not been verified by police as of now. If this account is true it sounds less and less like suicide.
Witness: Census worker’s hanging body naked, bound
By ROGER ALFORD and JEFFREY McMURRAY (AP)
BIG CREEK, Ky. — A part-time census worker found hanging in a rural Kentucky cemetery was naked, gagged and had his hands and feet bound with duct tape, said an Ohio man who discovered the body two weeks ago.
Jerry Weaver of Fairfield, Ohio, told The Associated Press on Friday that he was among a group of relatives who discovered the body of 51-year-old Bill Sparkman on Sept. 12.
“The only thing he had on was a pair of socks,” Weaver said. “And they had duct-taped his hands, his wrists. He had duct tape over his eyes, and they gagged him with a red rag or something.
“And they even had duct tape around his neck. And they had like his identification tag on his neck. They had it duct-taped to the side of his neck, on the right side, almost on his right shoulder.”
Weaver said he couldn’t tell if the tag was a Census Bureau I.D. He said he didn’t get close enough to read it.
State police Capt. Lisa Rudzinski would not confirm Weaver’s description of the crime scene. Two people briefed on the investigation said various details of Weaver’s account matched the details of the crime scene, though both people said they were not informed who found the body. The two spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the case.

If it was suicide, it must have been assisted.

I agree. And if it were why is the FBI involved?

I don’t get the tie some liberals are trying to make between this guy’s death and conservative political speech. There just doesn’t seem to be any connection.
When I heard about this guy, the first thing that came to my mind is that this guy knocked on the door of someone(s) enagaged in some sort of crime (i.e., maybe a meth lab), and the occupants suspected that he wasn’t simply a census worker but a “fed”.

I think the tie they are trying to make is between Michelle Bachman’s rant against the census and this guy’s death. I guess it’s possible….hell, most anything is possible. When you get back in the rural areas of some of the southern states in particular, Virginia included, you find all kinds of illegal activities including moonshining.
If it were drug dealers I would have expected theme to write “Narc” on his chest instead of “fed” but then again, maybe I’m 20 years behind on that.
In the backwater county I was raised in, I remember hearing how a couple of drug dealers ran a narc out of the county with a mock hanging but you know how those kinds of things get started and passed around whether true or not.

When I hear the word “narc” I think of someone impersonating a bad guy – working undercover. But I think I got that impression from the movies so it doesn’t deserve much reliance.
I looked up both words in a slang dictionary. According to that source (if you can call it such) a “narc” is used to denote an undercover police officer or agent attempting to catch someone for drug violations. Also as a verb, to “narc” on someone, or tell on them.
So, I think your sense of the word is probably valid.
I also looked up fed and it was defined as “Federal Law Enforcer.”
So, I think my sense that someone writing “fed” on someone is more a act of defiance against law enforcement, rather than defiance against someone counting residents.
Now, if they had inscribed something specifically related to Obama, then I could see a relationship to political persuasion. But writing “fed” on someone is hardly much of a anti-Obama administration statement. The word is used no matter which party is in office.
For all we know, he came across a paranoid schizophrenic. I just don’t see how writing “fed” on his body indicates hatred towards anything other than law enforcement.

Yeah, I agree. There are just so many possibilities from just a crazy person who hates the government, to drug dealers, etc. etc. etc. I guess we will find out eventually.

I was thinking a similar thing. Maybe a crime unrelated to the census at all. But the perps thought they’d ‘throw the cops off their trail’ by putting FED on him?
The whole thing does n’t make much sense though. There is a ‘missing link’ to this one!
