New Mexico’s white supremacists keep the hate alive, Klan Distributes Racist Literature in Abilene and Florida man pleads guilty to threat to kill Obama…..just a couple of the more disturbing headlines in the last couple of days.

The KKK distributed more than 400 leaflets in white neighborhoods denouncing interracial dating and non-white immigration. The Florida man wrote “I will not rest until this tyrant of america is gunned down,” the note said. “The blood of Obama will run down the streets of D.C.”

Possibly most disturbing is the Southern Poverty Law Center’s report Return of the Militias that details the fact that one federal law enforcement agency has found 50 new militia training groups — one of them made up of present and former police officers and soldiers. Contained in the report is the following quote from an analyst:

As Chip Berlet, an analyst of the radical right at Political Research Associates, said in a recent report: “The current political environment is awash with seemingly absurd but nonetheless influential conspiracy theories, hyperbolic claims and demonized targets. And this creates a milieu where violence is a likely outcome.”

As we’ve seen violence has erupted a number of times and groups like the New Mexico white supremacists hope to keep the hate alive which can only lead to more violence.   Maybe you are a birther  who isn’t a racist but remember you’re judged by the company you keep.

New Mexico’s white supremacists keep the hate alive

By: Dave Maass 08/12/2009

It’s the worst of times for the white pride movement.

In January, the nation’s mixed-race president, Barack Obama, was sworn in. In July, that president publicly scolded a white police officer for arresting an African American Harvard professor. And in August, the US Senate confirmed that president’s pick for the Supreme Court: the first Latina judge to sit on the panel.

Yet, 2009 may also be the best of times—at least for recruiting. The national climate is spurring racist organizations to regroup and reinvent themselves by latching onto “birther” conspiracy theories, homophobia and immigration fears, while promoting new philosophies of semi-tolerance and non-violence.

Frontline Aryans is a homegrown New Mexico white pride organization that recently committed to expansion. The group grew out of a small clique of white supremacists in Albuquerque who organized regular get-togethers in 2007 and 2008. When founder Justin Argabright moved to North Dakota in April, he decided it was time to take the organization national.

“It’s becoming easier to reach out to those who don’t associate with the white pride or white power movements,” Argabright tells SFR. “A lot of people are unhappy with the way the country is going these days.”
