Breaking News: Palin to resign as Governor of Alaska (Video)
CNN is reporting that Sarah Palin will be resigning as Governor of Alaska within the month which would be 18 months ahead of time. She will be handing the position over to the Lieutenant Governor, Sean Parnell. Speculation for her reason for resigning runs the gamut of possibilities from she is pregnant again, a scandal is brewing, etc.
A news reporter in Alaska, Andrew Wellner, the Frontiersman, reports that Sarah Palin said she could do more outside of government. Wellner went on to say that he believes she might be aligning to run for senator. Palin did not take any questions from reporters after the announcement. Wellner said Palin also commented, “you are naive if you don’t see a full court press from the national level picking away right now a good point guard.”
If I had to guess the real reason I would guess a scandal is brewing. I’m watching the video and she is obviously agitated.
She went on to say that the decision has been in the making for awhile. She talked about Trig being mocked and ridiculed….I don’t know what she’s talking about. She almost sounds like she’s hyperventilating. She rambled on and on about the troops and doing the right thing for Alaska. All in all, in my opinion, a very strange announcement.
Below is an excerpt from the Vanity Fair article with a link to the complete article:
It Came from Wasilla
Despite her disastrous performance in the 2008 election, Sarah Palin is still the sexiest brand in Republican politics, with a lucrative book contract for her story. But what Alaska’s charismatic governor wants the public to know about herself doesn’t always jibe with reality. As John McCain’s top campaign officials talk more candidly than ever before about the meltdown of his vice-presidential pick, the author tracks the signs—political and personal—that Palin was big trouble, and checks the forecast for her future.
By Todd S. Purdum August 2009
The crowds begin streaming into the Evansville Auditorium and Convention Centre a couple of hours before the arrival of the “special guest speaker” at the Vanderburgh County Right to Life dinner on a soft Indiana spring evening—nearly 2,200 people in the banquet hall, 800 more in an adjacent auditorium watching the proceedings on a live video feed. The menu is thick slices of roast pork and red velvet cake, washed down with pitchers of iced tea, and when Sarah Palin finally enters, escorted by a phalanx of sheriff’s deputies and local police, she is mobbed. The organizers of the dinner, billed as “the largest pro-life banquet in the world,” have courted Palin for weeks with care packages of locally made chocolates, doughnuts, barbecue, and pastries, and she has requited by choosing Evansville, a conservative stronghold in southern Indiana, as the site of her first public speech outside Alaska in 2009. Like Richard M. Nixon, who chose the coalfield town of Hyden, Kentucky, for his first post-resignation public appearance, Palin has come to a place where she is guaranteed a hero’s reception. She is not only a staunch foe of abortion but also the mother of a boy, Trig, who was born with Down syndrome just a few months before John McCain chose Palin as his running mate. The souvenir program for this evening’s dinner is full of displays for local politicians and businesses, attesting to their pro-life bona fides. An ad for Hahn Realty Corporation reads, “If you need commercial real estate, call Joe Kiefer! Joe is pro-life and a proud supporter of the Vanderburgh County Right to Life.” REST OF ARTICLE

She certainly sounded like she was speaking in word salad …

She got an offer she couldn’t refuse. It includes keeping her and her family out of the lime light and scrutiny. I always felt there is a certain amount of naivete when it comes to her and politics.

I’ve seen many horrific comments about her son, Trig, on Progressive blogs ever since she was announced as the VP pick for McCain. In fact, I did a post which showed all the things that he was called…a crack baby, a retard, a product of teen-aged alcoholic syndrome (that was said when they were spreading the rumor that he wasn’t Sarah’s baby, but her daughter’s baby).
I don’t blame her for being shaky when she made that speech. Could you imagine how difficult it has been for them in the last year? She was virtually called a slut on David Letterman, her oldest daughter was ridiculed and called slutty and a whore. I can’t imagine how difficult this was for her youngest daughters. I’m sure there was plenty of nasty remarks made to them on the playground at school.
Democrats should hold their heads in shame over their behavior. I thought the right wingers were bad when they were going after Hillary. That paled in comparison to what the Dems or so-called “Progressives” did to Sarah Palin. They couldn’t fight her record, so they personally attacked her and her family. That’s just pathetic, IMO. Sarah wasn’t naive, IMO, she and her kids were personally attacked mercilessly…in a way I’ve never seen another politician or his/her family attacked before.

I do believe Palin was the one who criticized Hillary for whining. I don’t know of any family who has taken more heat than the Clintons. Palin took things to a real low when she was arguing with a teenager on national television.

Specifically, Palin did her share of innuendo during her VP campaign planting seeds and standing back and letting it roll. She did nothing to quell the muslim, terrorist, racist snowballing all to evident at her rallies. At least Mc Cain corrected ONE woman on the muslim thing. The right wing bloggers were and are still at it.
I found the initial blogs about the baby appaling. But I haven’t seen anything about Trig lately. I saw a cartoon of Palin holding a baby with someone else’s face pasted on it. A cartoon. I did not feel it was a trig slam. I had a downes syndrome brother. I am also a mother. Dave Letterman should have been and was called on his jokes. But she also agreed to parade her family across that stage day after day. It was about appearance’s. Of course it became an issue when it appeared the one daughter was pregnant after Palins strong stance on abstinence. Abstinence is a no brainer for birth control but it is not realistic. I doubt that pregnancy was the result of rape.
How you look is one thing, how you behave is another in context of your beliefs. Espiecally if you actively promote those beliefs and hope to convince the general population and legislate them. Behavior is a fair target in politics.
Palin does not make sense to me in the role as a leader. I agree that she may be more effective in other ways. Somewhere where her understanding of ethics won’t be challenged. She claimed the ruling on the troopergate charges “vindicates” her. She said that the investigation found “no unlawful or unethical activity on my part.” In those findings Page 8, Finding Number One of the report says: “I find that Governor Sarah Palin abused her power by violating Alaska Statute 39.52.110(a) of the Alaska Executive Branch Ethics Act.”
In plain English, she did something “unlawful.” She broke the state ethics law.
She also claimed “there was no abuse of authority at all in trying to get Officer Wooten fired.”
In fact, the report concluded that “impermissible pressure was placed on several subordinates in order to advance a personal agenda, to wit: to get Trooper Michael Wooten fired.”
So I guess we have to wait and see what shakes out on this one.

Yep. It’s a wait and see but I found this interesting because it had come up before.

Sorry to hear that. I just don’t talk politics with most of my family.

Well it was unaviodable as it happened while they were here. GRRRRRR..

That speech was just weird.
Certainly I can’t imagine her coping with the kind of personal criticism that comes with the office of president.
As for attacks on her family – she put them in the spotlight. I’m not condoning the nasty behavior of some, but it exists, that’s reality and to be expected.

I didn’t condone attacks on her family and took people to task for attacking her family as I do when any politician’s family is attacked but she kept things in the spotlight by fighting with Bristol’s boyfriend on national television. She’s done nothing but seek attention for months now and it was getting real old.

Well i guess until we know if she is now runnign for pres. or just actually retiring to fade into the woodwork, it is all speculation. Depending what she does next, my opinion about why and/or how she resigned might change! So I am holding my opinion to see what comes next…….
But I do have an opinion on a couple of other things re: palin.
One,,, I can remember very specifically hearing her speak months ago( possibly during campaign) and sounding JUST like she did yesterday, very fast spoken and choppy sounding. This is a manic episode in my opinion. Or a manic personality trait rather. I do it myself sometimes in a very heightened state of emotion, speak very fast, like trying to spit out the whole sentence as quickly as possible. So whether or not that means anything,,, my point is if you heard her in the past, this is NOT the first time her VOICE sounded that way while speaking. Another thing, and this is one my mom and I have gone round and round about,,,,she could easily have shielded her family from the public spotlight by NOT ENTERING THE PUBLIC SPOTLIGHT!!!!!!! Period! No one in the press is talking about my out of wedlock grandchild,,,,, NO ONE,,, they don’t care because I’m NOT IN THE PUBLIC EYE! So there is that. Thirdly, and this I will believe until I am told otherwise by someone who knows……. palin never planned this media spotlight. I think Mccain camp , KNOWING they were in for a huge uphill climb, insisted she help them , sort of as a lifeline, a last ditch attempt to derail the Obama freight train. I think we all knew it wouldnt’ work and it didn’t. But I believe she was begged, seduced, manipulated, strongarmed into running with him. Because , looking back and knowing what we know now, why else would she run? It was a dynamic, exciting something new, fresh, new face, bla bla bla ,,,and without palin, mccain would have thrown in the towel BEFORE election day. So,,,,,,,there is my 2 cents

“…she could easily have shielded her family from the public spotlight by NOT ENTERING THE PUBLIC SPOTLIGHT!!!!!!! Period!”
Absolutely!
“But I believe she was begged, seduced, manipulated, strongarmed into running with him. Because , looking back and knowing what we know now, why else would she run? It was a dynamic, exciting something new, fresh, new face, bla bla bla”
I agree those were the reasons she was picked, but I think once asked she was delighted to see herself just a heart beat away from the oval office.
“and without palin, mccain would have thrown in the towel BEFORE election day. So,,,,,,,there is my 2 cents”
I think McCain did throw in the towel before election day.

In other words,,,,, you and I think a lot alike
July 5th, 2009 at 9:17 pm
It seems to me she really likes the spotlight and her running argument with her daughter’s boyfriend has been just ridiculous.
July 5th, 2009 at 9:23 pm
Well I think that some news items are there for the reading if you look for them. I feel like I’m fairly well informed and I read a lotta news all day, several times,,,and I ‘m not aware of any palin/boyfriend running argument. So, that is not just mainstream important news. OR I intentionally don’t read anything with the word ‘palin’ in the title,,,,’cuz I just almost could not care less. UNTIL this little resigning thing because it’s so weird and potentially important news !
