G. Gordon Liddy On Sotomayor: ‘Let’s Hope That The Key Conferences Aren’t When She’s Menstruating’
My first reaction was “oh no he didn’t” but yes, unfortunately Liddy did say this. The up side is his sexism isn’t veiled and open for defense, it’s right out there front and center. Is it seriously his contention that women of child bearing years should not hold positions of importance and authority?
I think Giddy finds it upsetting that someone other than a white male has been nominated to the Supreme Court….his argument is that the Supreme Court isn’t intended to be a representative body. Is there some law prohibiting it from being representative? What does the Constitution say about the Supreme Court?
Article III
Section 1. The judicial power of the United States, shall be vested in one Supreme Court, and in such inferior courts as the Congress may from time to time ordain and establish. The judges, both of the supreme and inferior courts, shall hold their offices during good behaviour, and shall, at stated times, receive for their services, a compensation, which shall not be diminished during their continuance in office.
Section 2. The judicial power shall extend to all cases, in law and equity, arising under this Constitution, the laws of the United States, and treaties made, or which shall be made, under their authority;–to all cases affecting ambassadors, other public ministers and consuls;–to all cases of admiralty and maritime jurisdiction;–to controversies to which the United States shall be a party;–to controversies between two or more states;–between a state and citizens of another state;–between citizens of different states;–between citizens of the same state claiming lands under grants of different states, and between a state, or the citizens thereof, and foreign states, citizens or subjects.
In all cases affecting ambassadors, other public ministers and consuls, and those in which a state shall be party, the Supreme Court shall have original jurisdiction. In all the other cases before mentioned, the Supreme Court shall have appellate jurisdiction, both as to law and fact, with such exceptions, and under such regulations as the Congress shall make. SOURCE
I’ve done some research and so far I haven’t found anywhere in the Constitution or law that requires a Supreme Court Justice to meet any special qualifications. The Constitution doesn’t even specify how many Justices there should be, (Congress has set the number of Justices at 9 but it wasn’t always so¹) much less what the make up of the court should be concerning age, sex, race, etc. So what we have is nothing but Liddy’s sexist and racist opinion that the court shouldn’t be representative.
G. Gordon Liddy On Sotomayor: ‘Let’s Hope That The Key Conferences Aren’t When She’s Menstruating’
G. Gordon Liddy looking angryYesterday on his radio show, conservative host G. Gordon Liddy continued the right wing’s all-out assault on Judge Sonia Sotomayor. First, just like Tom Tancredo, Liddy slammed Sotomayor’s affiliation with the civil rights group La Raza — and referred to the Spanish language as “illegal alien“:
LIDDY: I understand that they found out today that Miss Sotomayor is a member of La Raza, which means in illegal alien, “the race.” And that should not surprise anyone because she’s already on record with a number of racist comments.
Finished with the race-based attack, Liddy moved on to denigrate Sotomayor’s gender:
LIDDY: Let’s hope that the key conferences aren’t when she’s menstruating or something, or just before she’s going to menstruate. That would really be bad. Lord knows what we would get then.
Finally, Liddy disputed the entire idea that there’s anything wrong with the paucity of women and total lack of Hispanics on the Court:
LIDDY: And everybody is cheering because Hispanics and females have been, quote, underrepresented, unquote. And as you pointed out, which I thought was quite insightful, the Supreme Court is not designed to be and should not be a representative body.
Rest of Article
What possible reason could there be for the Supreme Court to consist of only white males? What’s wrong with a representative court other than the fact it takes away the rights of white males to interpret law in a manner biased toward white males?
I knew that Liddy was an ex-con² who capitalized on his notoriety, making one wonder why conservatives and Fox News find him a suitable commentator. Why would anyone give any credence to this thug’s opinion much less listen to him on the airwaves? Does he demonstrate the high moral values the conservatives are so proud of?
Liddy was convicted for his role in the Watergate break-in, for conspiracy in the Daniel Ellsberg case and for contempt of court, spending about four and a half years in prison. In 1986, a federal appeals court found Liddy liable for $20,499 in back taxes on Watergate slush-fund money, rejecting his claim that his benefits did not exceed $45,000. As one of the White House “plumbers,” Liddy spent about $300,000 engineering political dirty tricks and the Watergate break-in. SOURCE
Of course Liddy is entitled to his opinion as am I and my opinion of Liddy is he is a thug, a racist and a sexist pig.

Liddy should have been prosecuted for treason and terrorist activities.

Why would anyone find Liddy’s opinion of importance? Why would Fox News allow him on their show as some kind of expert and strategist?
May 29th, 2009 at 2:48 pm
Haha, There’s many a thing I want to say on this. But I guess I dont’ read enough news to know or care really who liddy is. So I better keep my opinion to myself. I’ve heard his name, but I don’t know his face so I guess I’ve never seen him.

He was involved in Watergate and went to prison for it.

That low-life bully. Why aren’t more centrist men and women speaking up about the all-out personal attacks on Sotomayor? It’s one thing to question her judicial record, after all, that always happens. But the thuggish bullying talk-rape needs to stop, immediately.

More Liddy
Liddy, on Vitenam:
“I wanted to bomb the Red River dykes [sic]. It would have drowned half the country and starved the other half. There would have been no way the Viet Cong could have operated if we had the will-power to do that.”
Liddy, advising Branch Davidians how to defend themselves from ATF agents during a radio show:
“If the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms insists upon a firefight, give them a firefight. Just remember, they’re wearing flak jackets and you’re better off shooting for the head.”
Liddy, on the impact Adolf Hitler had on him as a child:
When he listened to Hitler on the radio, it “made me feel a strength inside I had never known before,” he explains. “Hitler’s sheer animal confidence and power of will [entranced me]. He sent an electric current through my body.”
His blueprints for the Watergate escapade included the possibility of murders to achieve their goals.

I recall Liddy being quoted as saying something like “I’d kill my wife if I thought it was for the good of the country.”
Clearly he doesn’t especially like women.
After reading “All the President’s Men” I thought I’d truly figured out what evil meant.

Let’s answer some questions before I describe the car. Humour me… please…
1. NO, it is not a “condo-car” that’s been garaged all its natural life. It’s a $600 car.
2. YES, the odometer reads 24k miles, but I am VERY certain it has rolled over and it’s actually 124k miles. It’s a $600 car.
3. YES, it is restorable. Anything is restorable if you have the time and money! But, in its current condition, it’s a $600 car.
4. YES, the interior is very clean. NOTICE I DID NOT SAY IT WAS MINT! It is clean… one tiny tear on the drivers seat back, broken arm-rest on drivers side, TWENTY THREE YEARS OLD!!! Again, it’s a $600 car.
5. YES, it does start and run very well. My son drove it to and from work for several months while his daily-driver was being repaired. Not bad for a $600 car!
6. NO, my boyfriend and his tool box do NOT come with the car. In other words, you’re buying a TWENTY-THREE YEAR OLD, SIX HUNDRED DOLLAR CAR, people! I cannot guarantee that it will “last at least a year” or that “it will make it all the way to Oregon in September”. Sheesh… I mean, c’mon! My crystal ball broke a lonnnnnng time ago. What’s more, it’s a $600 car.
7. YES, it is quiet. But will it disturb your neighbors? HOW THE HELL DO I KNOW? I don’t even KNOW your neighbors! I know you can squeal tires pretty loudly, even in this old $600 car.
8. NO, I will NOT pay for your gas if you drive here from East Jesus and decide not to buy the car for any reason. Why would you drive 3 hours to buy a $600 car anyway?
9. NO, I am NOT interested in donating the car to your worthy cause. My son needs the money. He’s a kid, for crying out loud! Do you really think he’d be advertising this $600 car for SALE if he wanted to “help you out because you’re down on your luck because your boyfriend left you and took your car and you have no way to get back and forth from….”. You get the picture.
10. Did I mention it’s a $600 car? That does NOT mean it’s a $400 car, or a $500 car, or even a $550 car! THE PRICE IS $600, get it?
11. NO, I do not own a firearm. Yet.
If you’ve read this far, then you must be somewhat interested in the car, right? Be advised, I am in no mood to be trifled with after the 250 stupid phone calls I received over the weekend. That’s right… 250, mostly assinine people, asking questions relating to the above 11 answers. Ever dealt with a woman whose hot-flashes run about 500 degrees? Seriously. Do NOT poke the bear, or if you do, do so at your own risk.
I am not going to post my phone number, as my Xanax prescription is empty and I cannot afford to have it refilled until this Friday. That being said, I do have twenty photos of the car from every angle, aspect, perspective and view which I would be happy to send to you via email. Just click on the pretty blue link at the top of the post, and I promise I’ll email you back lots of full-color photos that were taken just this morning.
****Only after I have determined that you are not going to be yet another idiot such as those mentioned above will I give you my phone number and/or address so that you may come and see the car****

But isnt the point of the craigslist thing with relation to this particular thread……that the woman on craigslist is grumpy and out of sorts due to hormones?
Sage Reply:
May 30th, 2009 at 4:38 pm
Well I read it more as satire. I’ve joked in the past about having PMS and a handgun while I certainly didn’t have PMS as I’ve had a hysterectomy. I think it’s one thing for women to joke about these things and quite another to insinuate that a woman who has already been a judge for 18 years is unqualified for that position because she might have a period. It’s sort of like it’s one thing for blacks to call each other n***** but quite another for a non-black person to do it.
I get your point but I can’t say that I agree with it.
May 30th, 2009 at 3:38 pm
I don’t even know who liddy is and even after the pic of him is up there, I don’t recognize him. I guess i’ve been living under a rock ! Or I just fail to notice insignificant folks sometimes,,,,, my bad
But as a woman, I find it OFFENSIVE that other women find it OFFENSIVE when someoen MALE OR FEMALE makes a comment about PMS! If women don’t want to be categorized as hormonal then maybe they should stop raging every month and then the PMS thing would fade off and no longer be a COMMENT worthy event.
I just know women and all of you women know women who say OH dear it’s THAT time of month and that explains why i’m weepy or sulky or raging, etc.
It is a double edged sword to blame our CYCLE on various things and then cry FOUL when someone else comments on it.
I see this a a NO TWO WAYS ABOUT IT situation.
THe craigslist thing IS FUNNY,, to ANYONE who reads it. If half of those people are MEN are they to be made to feel bad for laughing at it ?
And LIDDY while he may be a scumbag and who knows how horrid he is just commenting on what hundreds of thousands of PEOPLE, men and women, have commented on in the past. In bad taste? Yes. Stupid to say to PRESS,,, you bet!!!!!! But I just don’t think that alone taints him as a sexist. I just don’t see it.
There are many ways that women’s RIGHTS and LIBERATION have created a double edged sword for women.
If SONYATORO is strong enough to be on the SCOTUS, then surely she can blow off a little ‘period’ humor.
May 30th, 2009 at 3:42 pm
Let me qualify the above post by saying one of my dearest and oldest friends who is SO IN NEED OF A HYSTERECTOMY because she is beyond child bearing years, is a woman who torments and terrorizes her whole family for a week out of every month! I don’t know how she’s stayed married so long with the pms the way it is. She and I love each other to death but have had horrible screaming fights on the phone a few times. After eveyr one of them, BARNONE, she has called and apologized and blamed her period. Then sometimes when she’s a touch grumpy and I say OH are you PMSing , she gets MAD. It’s hypocritical at best. You cannot use it as a crutch and a defense and then disown it when someone else brings it up.
That’s all.
Liddy’s likely still a scumbag and this is likely the most minor of the reasons.

Ali, That is exactly what I told my daughters. If you want to consider yourself handicapped for at least a quarter of your life, you deal with the consequences. That is not dicounting the actuality of the event, but recognize it for what it is and learn to deal with it. It’s not an excuse for anything.
Somehow, I don’t think Sonia has let it get in her way. She’s been to busy.

WIZZZZZZZZZZ < I’m sorry for the tone . And my response is not to YOU or anyone on this blog actually. My reply is to the article. WHen I initially read it I thought this, but I needed a day to collect my thoughts before writing them. Kind of threw me but no problem. Did have to wonder if my sense of humor somehow warped though! LOL
May 30th, 2009 at 4:40 pm
My friend had PMS horribly. I gave her an oversized t shirt to sleep in that said PMS on it. I also gave her a coffee mug that said “Today’s the day” to use to warn her hubby.
Menopause can be horrible too. My mom was given librium. Me, I had to be told by my Dr I was there. But bottom line because a woman gets short and to the point is no reason to blame it on something like this. Liddy’s comment was a power thing. Faulting her for being female and implying that being female is somehow disabling. Someone like Liddy, believe it or not, acts on fear and can be proactive on fear.
The craiglist does not mean the woman has a problem with menopause or PMS. She just doesn’t want to suffer fools. Who better than a woman to call it as it is?
May 30th, 2009 at 5:18 pm
Well……
Liddy is obviously taking a CHEAPSHOT, no doubt. I just think women should be less sensitive about period talk UNLESS they are willing to HANDLE their emotions during hormonal swings,,,, periods or menopause, etc etc.
Sonya has not addressed liddy’s comment right?
This is a smart move on her part. Because that makes him
the only one talking about it!

OK I’m just gonna make a wild guess here
Given liddy’s appearance, that is how charming and sexy he looks in the picture above……….I’m just gonna guess he’s heard ‘” i can’t, I’m on my period”" a time or two in his life….. Maybe that’s why it’s made such an impression on him.
