McCain Suspends Campaign to Help With Bailout

John McCain announced that he will suspend his presidential campaign on Thursday to return to Washington to help with bailout negotiations. He urged his opponent Barack Obama to do the same.
The Arizona senator also asked the Presidential Debate Commission to postpone Friday’s scheduled debate with Obama so that he can work on the financial crisis bailout plan now on Capitol Hill.
“America this week faces an historic crisis in our financial system. We must pass legislation to address this crisis. If we do not, credit will dry up, with devastating consequences for our economy. People will no longer be able to buy homes and their life savings will be at stake. Businesses will not have enough money to pay their employees. If we do not act, ever corner of our country will be impacted. We cannot allow this to happen,” McCain said.
McCain’s move suggests he’s serious about dealing with the bailout since he had negotiated strongly to make the first of the three debates between the candidates on foreign policy, McCain’s strong suit. The first debate had been set for Friday at the University of Mississippi in Oxford.

It’ll be nice to see Senator McCain back in the halls of Congress. This would be his second appearance all year, if he shows up.
Sorry, but he’s either running sscared, or he’s colluding with President Bush to force the Democrats to buy a pig in a poke. (No lipstick references, please.)
Giving the Secretary of the Treasury $700 billion to dole out, and no oversight accountability? I don’t think so!

Obama said he’s not interested in suspending his campaign and will go ahead with it. He says he could do both, work on the economic crisis and campaign. Obama still thinks he’s Superman.
I hope that McCain doesn’t get hurt by this. It was a bold move, but will it bury him?

LOL at larrys. Maybe he just wants to be in Washington so he can see and hear exactly what’s going on. Hearing things second hand on the phone isn’t the same as being there in person.

COUNTRY ABOVE POLITICS !!!
Both candidates are U.S. Senators. This financial crisis will be decided in the U.S. SENATE. The brilliant plan is that after this 7 hundred billion dollar bail out … Pelosi and Reed will be in charge of picking who will be in charge of ongoing oversight for continued spending. God help us!
This is another example of how Senator John McCain puts country first. All Obama cares about is winning the election at any cost. Obama neglected his duties as U.S. Senator before running for President, and especially after he began running for President. This ‘bail out – quick fix” will negatively affect Americans for decades. Many of the bloggers who are criticizing McCain for this decision wouldn’t recognize responsibility, or integrity if it bit them on the ass. Keep America strong and safe … Elect McCain/Palin in November.
