Sept. 11, 2001 I was sitting at my desk at work when the first plane struck. A late arriving co-worker heard the news on the radio and we turned on the television set in time to see the second plane hit. We spent the morning watching the horrors of that day unfold.
Around 11:00 a.m. my parents showed up unexpectedly at my place of work and were obviously very shaken. We went out for an early and subdued lunch and I realized that they needed to be close to one of their children….the events of the morning had resurrected their feelings of the other day that lives in infamy…Pearl Harbor. That day the roles changed and the child became the comforter for the parent.
So, today, the 7th anniversary of September 11, 2001, I will spend the day with my mother and put aside politics.
‘Put aside Politics
Senators Obama and McCain, the Democratic and Republican nominees in November’s election, will appear together at Ground Zero in the afternoon to lay wreathes in honour of the victims.
In a joint statement from the campaigns announcing their decision to visit Ground Zero together, the two men vowed to come together “as Americans” and suspend their political campaigns for 24 hours.
“We will put aside politics and come together to renew that unity, to honour the memory of each and every American who died, and to grieve with the families and friends who lost loved ones,” the statement said.

Biden was in Parma, OH today, something with first responders. It wasnt all that political, so Ill cut him some slack, though he probably shouldnt have done it.
Your story about your parents needing you and the role reversal is moving.

I watched a show on the History Channel last night called “102 minutes that changed America”. Powerful stuff!
I also followed timepassages link and read John McCain’s speech along with Barrys’ email. Everybody should do the same…I know who touched my heart and it wasn’t the email.
